Alzheimers Memory Walk Oct 1, 2006

Written by Karen A. Feldeisen

Unfortunately due to very rainy weather, there was a lower than normal turnout for the Alzheimers Association Memory Walk, but those walkers that showed up were greeted by the smiling friendly faces of our Parrothead members, Claire Bailey, Karen & Richard Feldeisen, Mike Gagne, Mike O’Connell, Pam Orlando, Allison Pratte and Barbara & Scott Simpson.

Our members were responsible for team registration and then food distribution. Of course the beads went around as usual and well as usual, somehow Richard ended up with most of them. He is a very tricky devil. Although Barbara went home with Claire’s bunch and I lost mine almost immediately. Oh well, easy come, easy go.

As usual they had loads of interesting booths set-up to learn more about Alzheimers and they had their typical raffles. I did play but not win this time. However, my husband was one of the big winners, so I guess I must be rubbing off on him. He won a beautiful shadow box that has a Yankee pennant and 6 player cards mounted within. Sorry he’s originally from New York so we let him root for the dark side.

I would like to thank Mike Gagne who has done this event for 9 years in a row and no matter what the weather or problem that we have to face, he’s there with a smile and a warm welcome.

We gave Mike from Outback Steakhouse a picture of the club basket from the 2006 convention showing his donation which he was impressed to see what we do. Never know this could be a great relationship to form moving forward.

Hope you are all looking forward the future events this month. There will be an Autism walk on Oct 15th in Sheffield, see Marianne for more information and don’t forget our annual Harvest Party at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield on Oct 21st, see Nancy for more information on that one. Don’t forget to sell your raffle tickets and if you are interested in sponsoring a child let Nancy know.

Hope to see you all there with your Phins Up.
